Thai Air Asia Student Pilot Application Requirements & Procedures

The requirements are as follows:
  • Thai national, male, age not over 30 years old (applicable date of birth not before October 01, 1993)
  • Male or female, exempted from military service
  • University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Good command of both spoken and written English
  • TOEIC / TOEFL / IELTS (within ONE year)
  • Excellent health and good eye sight 
    • Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses are allowed up to -300
    • Applicants who had LASIK or PRK operations must wait one year before applying
  • Minimum height of 165 cms. for males, 163 cms. for females
  • Police Clearance Certificate issued by the Royal Thai Police Clearance. Candidates will be disqualified for criminal or drunk driving records. ​

The Group Written Test is completely in ENGLISH. The Test is in TWO parts:
  • The Technical Knowledge Test is to test applicants' proficiency levels in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, general science, aviation, and general knowledge. The test has 100 questions over a 100-minute period.
  • The English Knowledge / Aptitude Tests both have 100 questions. The total time for these tests is 2 hours.
    • The English Knowledge Test (TOEFL level) is to test the applicant's ability in reading comprehension, structure, grammar, usage, vocabulary, conversation, and written expression.
    • The Aptitude Test will test applicants' abilities in speed scanning, spatial orientation, logical thinking, perception, and short-term memory.
  • Applicants must be at the test room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their returned email application ID bill, Thai  ID card, and some pens, pencils (2B), and erasers.
  • Applicants are not allowed to take computers, calculators, mobile phones, or other personal belongings into the test room.​
  • Applicants must pass the Group Written Test with a score of at least 60% in order to qualify for the next step.

MEDICAL TEST AT THE INSTITUTE OF AVIATION MEDICINE, ROYAL THAI AIR FORCE (NEXT TO BHUMIPHOL ADULYADEJ HOSPITAL), 171, PAHOLYOTHIN ROAD: Please check dates at www.thaiairasiarecruitment.
  • All Student Pilot applicants are required to have a Medical Examination.
  • The fee for the Medical Examination is 1,600 Baht per person. Applicants must pay this on the day of the examination. It is non-refundable.
  • Applicants must:  
    • Not eat any food after 8 pm on the day before the Medical Examination. Applicants can drink a little water if it is really necessary.
    • Applicants must wear shirt and tie, and bring their application ID, Thai ID card, and some pens, pencils, and erasers.
  • ​​It is not difficult to pass if applicants exercise a lot before the tests. The doctors are very strict about eyes, ears, and blood. If you are not sure or if you think you a problem, it is a very good idea to check your health 2 or 3 months before you have the examination. If you drink or smoke, it is also a very good idea to stop or limit it. If you cannot pass the easiest step to be a pilot, you will not be happy, so it is up to you to follow the advice above.

    • All applicants will also be required to take a psychology (personal) paper test with approximately 250 questions.

INTERVIEW WITH THE THAI AIR ASIA PILOT SELECTION COMMITTEE, THAI AIR ASIA OFFICE, OSC BUILDING, KINGKAEW ROAD: Please check dates at www.thaiairasiarecruitment.
  • All applicants will have a 20-30 minute interview with 3-4 Thai Air Asia staff (1 or 2 captains, chief pilot, HR manager, CEO, ...).
  • Usually only 2 of the staff will talk to you. The other staff will watch you, and check your reactions when they stress or pressure you. The selection committee want to check you are serious to be an Air Asia pilot, that you have the ability to work well under pressure, and that you can do 2 or 3 things at the same time. (This usually includes solving mathematics problems.)
  • Applicants must be at the meeting room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their applicant ID and Thai identification card.​

    • The fee for the test is 900 Baht per person. Applicants must pay this on the day of the examination. It is non-refundable.

    • This test is from 08:15 - 13:00 at Room No. 223, 2nd Floor.
    • Applicants will be tested by aviation psychologists.

The requirements for pilots with command experience and Thai ATPL are as follows:
  • Thai national, male, age below 55 years old (applicable date of birth from October 01, 1967)
  • Exempted from military service (male only)
  • Minimum height of 163 cms.
  • University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Good command of both spoken and written English. Must have ICAO English Proficiency Level 4 or above.
  • Holding a Police Clearance Certificate issued by the Royal Thai Police Clearance. Candidates will be disqualified for criminal or drunk driving records.
  • ​Excellent health and good eyesight
  • Currently flying fixed-wing aircraft (only)
  • Graduated from a flying school recognised by the Thai Department of Aviation
  • Holding a Thai CAA Commercial Pilot’s Licence
  • Holding a Medical Class 1 Certificate issued only by the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Royal Thai Air Force
  • ​Minimum Hours: 
    • 4,000+ total flight time and
    • 500+ P-I-C hours (A320/A330/A340) or
    • 1,000+ P-I-C hours in aircraft equipped with EFIS/FMS or
    • 2,500+ P-I-C hours in airline operations (MPA > 20,000kg)

 The Basic Knowledge Test is in TWO parts:
  • Technical & General Aviation Knowledge Test (100 Questions):
    • Applicants will be tested on their knowledge of technical and general aviation (from PPL up to  ATPL). Applicants may also be tested on their abilities in subjects essential for pilots, like high school mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, general science, and general knowledge.
